Wouldn’t it be great to use that time to put some extra money in your pocket? Especially if you get to play some fun games while you do it.
Pretty sweet huh? Ok, let’s get this Mistplay review started so you can start making some cash today!
What is Mistplay?
Mistplay is a smartphone app that was launched in 2017.
The idea behind the app is that users like you get to play games on the platform and earn points, which can then be redeemed for gift cards.
Mistplay is completely free to use. You can make in-app purchases and buy upgrades in the game if you want, but you don’t need to spend a penny to earn points and cash.
How Does Mistplay Work?
All Mistplay Games
So the first thing you’ll need to do is download the Mistplay app here. Right now it’s only available for Android phone users. Apple iOS users will have to sit tight for a while as they are still developing a version of Mistplay for iPhones.
Once you download the app you’ll have to make a couple of minor adjustments to your phone’s settings.
You just have to disable the power-saving mode on your phone and allow Mistplay to show on top of other applications that are running.
If you don’t make those two changes, Mistplay won’t be able to track your game usage and you won’t be able to earn any points.
Once you’ve got it installed you can create your Mistplay account. You can either set it up through your Facebook account or use an email address.
How Do You Earn Money On Mistplay?
The key to maximizing your earnings on Mistplay is understanding how their point system works.
I’m not gonna lie, I found it a little confusing at first. But once I got the hang of it I was able to earn points much faster.
Mistplay’s points system has three key metrics: Units, Game Experience Points (GXP) and Player Experience Points (PXP).
I know those terms might sound a little confusing, so let’s dive a little deeper into each of them so you understand what they mean and how they affect your earnings.
Units – Units are the basic currency within Mistplay. They’re what you will redeem for cash, gift cards, and prizes.
You earn Mistplay units just by playing various games and the more you play the more you’ll earn. You can also earn units by advancing through levels of each game and completing specific tasks to earn badges.
You can see how many points you’ve earned right from the Mistplay dashboard. That’s also where you’ll go to exchange units for real world rewards once you’re reached the threshold. For example, 1,800 units can be traded for a $5 gift card to Amazon and other retailers.
GXP – You earn game experience points based on how long you’ve been playing a particular game. Each time you reach a certain threshold within the game you’ll earn a level up bonus.
The higher your GXP, the more units you’ll earn in that particular game.
PXP – Player experience points are also important. These are based not on playing individual games, but on your entire Mistplay experience. As you level up your profile you’ll earn more units in ANY game you play.
In other words, your GXP influences how many units you’ll earn in an individual game, while PXP influences the number of units you’ll earn across all games.
Ultimately, the more you play the more you’ll increase both GXP and PXP, and the more units you’ll earn towards gift cards.
What Kinds Of Games Are On Mistplay?
There are all sorts of games to choose from and the more you play the more you’ll earn.
I’m not kidding when I say there are games for everyone within Mistplay.
Whether you like sports games, adventure, strategy, casino games, trivia, puzzles, board games, or building simulators, you’ll definitely find something to enjoy.
One thing to remember is that game availability is based on your location. So your Mistplay mix list may look a bit different than mine.
When you first log into Mistplay, review the list of games available to you in your area. I currently have several dozen games to choose from. Here’s some of the ones listed on my Mistplay games list:
- Disney Emoji Blitz
- Toy Blast
- Who Wants to be a Millionaire
- Star Trek: Fleet Command
- Words With Friends
- Yahtzee
- Bubbles Empire
- Ultimate Golf
- Farmville 2
- Gin Rummy
- Tycoon Casino
- and many, many more.
I’m not a gamer at all. I’ll play Nintendo with my son because it makes him happy, but other than that I really don’t play a lot of games. But Mistplay has some games I think are really fun to play when I have some extra time on my hands.
How Much Can You Earn On Mistplay?
This is really what you want to know right? Is Mistplay worth it?
Well, the truth is it depends on what you’re looking to get out of the game. If you’re thinking you’ll be able to quit your day job and get paid to play video games all day, forget it.
But if you’re just looking to earn some extra spending money while playing some fun games in your spare time, then Mistplay is perfect.
Your exact earnings will vary based on how much you play, which games you play, how many levels you advance, and what kind of milestones you achieve while playing.
When I first downloaded and tested the app for this Mistplay review, I tried three different games and played for a total of about an hour and a half and in that time I was able to earn enough for an Amazon gift card.
You can also earn extra Mistplay units by referring friends. If they install the app and start playing games you’ll earn bonus units which will bring you even closer to the threshold for cashing out.
Mistplay Hacks And Tips For Earning More
Obviously, the more time you spend playing games on Mistplay the more money you’ll earn.
But there are some other tips that will help you maximize your earnings.
- Make sure you play for at least five minutes every day. You get bonus units when you keep your playing streak growing.
- Look for games with high multipliers. The unit multiplier indicates how many units you get when you reach the next level. The higher the multiplier the more units you earn.
- Badges and milestones earn you bonus units. Check each game to see which milestones are available.
- Look for boosted games where the payout is greatly increased for a limited time.
- Keep trying new games and collecting the easy to reach bonuses and milestones available at the early levels. They can get tougher to reach as you go on.
- You’ll only accumulate game experience points (GXP) for a max of two hours per day. After that, you’ll have to switch to a different game to keep earning.
- In order to earn units, you have to launch the game from within Mistplay. If you just open the app from your smartphone without going through Mistplay it won’t register and you won’t get points. In reading through numerous Mistplay reviews, it seems a lot of users make this mistake and then complain Mistplay is a scam when the truth is they just didn’t follow directions.
How Do I Redeem Mistplay Units For Gift Cards?
Once you’ve accumulated enough units, you can trade them in for a gift card at numerous retailers. To redeem your units, just log into Mistplay, review the shop section and choose which gift card you want.
As of this writing, you can choose from the vendors below:
- Amazon
- Visa
- Google Play
- Xbox
- Gamestop
- Playstation
- iTunes
- Starbucks
- eBay
- Nintendo
Obviously, many of the options are perfect for gamers. I do wish they offered payout via cash or Paypal, but a Visa gift card can be used almost anywhere and Amazon gift cards are the next best thing to cash for me.
They say it could take up to 48 hours to receive your gift card, but I received mine in less than a day.
The email containing my Amazon gift card came from “Tango Card” so keep an eye out for that sender in your email and make sure you don’t accidentally delete the message with your gift card.
Mistplay Reviews From Real Life Users
I tested the app out myself so I could give you a complete and detailed Mistplay review, but I didn’t stop there. I dug a little deeper to find some real life reviews from other people who have tried the app.
Mistplay currently has a solid 4.1 rating on the Google Play store, and overall the comments and ratings are pretty positive.
What I really find impressive is that Mistplay actually responds to reviews where the user was having technical issues. They actually try to help people who are having trouble with the app and they do their best to give them a good experience.
Here are a few quotes from real users who took the time to write up a Mistplay review:
Finally one of these play and earn apps really live up to their promise. I earned a gift card in about a month playing games I actually want to play. There are so many choices of games to play and they keep adding more. Unlike so many other apps like this, the variety of types of games continues to grow. Most apps lure you in with adds with games you never actually see on the platform and you end up having to choose from only slot or bingo games. Not Mistplay! They have so many more games too!
Angela SteinhausApps ok after awhile. Gotten 7 $10 gift cards so far, but I think that’s it. Nothing really new to play, unless you like slot machine games, which compromise a good chunk of the options, or games designed for kids. The variety goes away after playing for several months. Like every other game I’ve played, and I’ve played a lot, it quits being fun, and becomes more of a chore.
John McDonaldI have this app downloaded have had it for some time now. My husband also has the app on his phone. For some reason he gets way more and better options for games than I do. Looking at profiles seems like a lot of others do as well. Also should have a way of searching for certain games and be rewarded no matter how you open the game you chose to play.
Laura HuffmanSo far mistplay is the ONLY, and I mean the ONLY, app that actually pays you for playing Free games. I have gotten 2 $10 Amazon gift cards and 1 $10 Google play gift card with playing mistplay and they offer you so many awesome games and really mistplay is the best app to earn money playing games. And they really are free!
Laura AllenThere’s also this Mistplay Reddit thread where a user mentions that he spent about 94 hours playing games and made $80 for his time. That’s obviously a lousy hourly wage, but if you’re sitting in the car waiting to pick up your kids or have a long train commute you can actually get paid a few bucks for time that would otherwise be wasted.
How Does Mistplay Make Money?
I know what you’re thinking.
Is Mistplay legit? Why would someone pay me to play video games on my phone?
It may sound too good to be true, but trust me Mistplay is safe and 100 percent legitimate. I’ve tested it myself and I’ve actually gotten paid so I know it isn’t a scam.
Mistplay can afford to pay you because they’re a kind of testing ground for mobile games. Developers are basically paying you to test out the games so they can spot any kinks or bugs in the code and make improvements.
They can also see which games are most popular and which people stay away from.
Plus, having their games available to Mistplay users lets developers find an audience and get people to try their games. Hopefully you’ll spread the word and get your friends to try them too.
And since some of the games allow in-app purchases to level up or upgrade your experience, they obviously hope you’ll spend some money while you’re playing too. But as we mentioned earlier, you never have to spend a penny to make money with Mistplay.
Mistplay FAQS You Should Know
In order to use the Mistplay app, you need to be at least 18 years of age. You’ll also need an Android smartphone as the app is not yet available for the iPhone. Hopefully that changes soon.
If you don’t use the app for 180 days, you may have your account suspended for inactivity. If that happens you’ll forfeit any units you’ve accumulated, so be sure to log in every once in awhile so your account stays active.
Also, VPNs are strictly forbidden. If you try to use one your account will be suspended.
Mistplay Review – The Final Word
So what’s the deal? Is Mistplay legit and safe to use?
Absolutely. I’ve tested it out myself and I’ve actually earned Amazon gift cards which I had no trouble redeeming.
Is Mistplay worth it?
I think so, but only if you have the right expectations.
You see, you’re never going to get rich playing video games on Mistplay. I don’t care if you spend twelve hours a day on the app, it’s just not going to happen.
But that doesn’t mean Mistplay isn’t worth it. As long as you have realistic expectations, the app is a great way to to make extra money in your spare time.
Even just playing in your spare time, like on a long train ride or while you’re sitting in your car waiting to pick up your kids, you might earn up to $50 or more per month.
And while that might not be enough to retire on, it’s always great to have some extra spending cash in your pocket!
Who doesn’t want to get paid for playing video games? This series follows mobile applications, some of which are borderline games at best, that claim to reward users with cold hard cash (or gift cards). In my pursuit of extra cash to blow on games, or Steam gift cards to add to my collection, I have tried a number of these applications. I hope my experiences can help others steer clear of the more dubious of these applications.
In the second article in this series, I will be taking a look at Mistplay, a free application released by Mistplay Entertainment in 2017. This application is not really a game itself, but more of what is known as a “loyalty reward” app. In a nutshell, you get points for playing various games through their platform, which can then be cashed out for gift cards.
Before anyone gets too upset about this not truly being a game, it does relate to gaming in that you can be paid to play games via applications like this. I wanted to cover these service apps first, so there would be something to reference in future Mobile Money articles about these games. So, on to the details about Mistplay.
The first thing that you need to do after downloading this application is to create a profile. You don’t have to provide a lot of personal information to sign up, but you do need to provide an e-mail address and birthday, to validate that you are of legal age to use this application. You create a public user ID and choose an avatar from a selection of icons.
Mistplay Sign In
When signing up, you are asked a couple of questions about game preferences, so it can suggest some games you may like to play. The main menu of Games, pictured above, is several lists of games organized by genre, new additions, popular games, or games currently giving bonus points for being played. You can pick one to start playing in order to earn rewards “units”.
The main way that you get rewarded for playing games in Mistplay is simply by spending time being active in a game. During play you earn “experience points” for that game, which are basically just a measure of how long you’ve been playing. When you spend enough time in a game, you “level up” earning units. Each game has 20 levels that you can earn points for, though each consecutive one takes longer to complete.
Different games pay out different amounts of units for gaining levels in them. You can get a rough idea of how many units a game pays, based on on the Units value on the game listing. To use the screenshot above as an example, War Eternal is offering the highest level of units, while Marble Dash is offering the lowest.
In addition to leveling up games, they typically offer achievements that can be completed for bonus units. For some reason, they seem to want to encourage people not to sleep and have an achievement for playing for an hour after midnight. I would also strongly advise against making any in-app purchases to complete achievements. If you are trying to earn money by playing games, then paying out money just does not make sense.
Each week, if you play a game every day for at least 5 minutes you also earn a few bonus units. Finally, there is also a weekly contest where one user wins a large prize, usually 10,000 units. To enter the contest, you need to complete a set of requirements. These requirements are usually to play a new game up to level 5 or 6, get one new person to follow you on the app, and to play a certain game for at least 30 minutes.
So, what are units actually worth? A total of 1,500 points is worth about $5 in gift cards, but only if you get ones worth $10 or more; $5 gift cards cost 1,800 units – making them a worse purchase. So, if we divide 1,500 by $5.00, then each unit is worth about a third of a penny. At the time of this writing, the available gift cards are for Amazon, Google Play, Xbox, Game Stop, Apple, PlayStation, Starbucks, Ebay, Nintendo, or a pre-paid Visa card.
The next big question would be, how long does it take to earn 1,500 points? Playing somewhat casually, it takes about a month on average, at least in my experience. There are a number of factors that impact the rate at which you will earn units.
Best Games On Mistplay
Mistplay gets paid by referring new players to applications. If you have previously played a game, then you will usually get almost no units, and achievements will be unavailable. The speed at which you can level up in games also continues to slow as you progress, meaning you earn points more quickly when starting off in a new game. I was unable to find a hard breakdown of time for each level, but I estimate going from level 11 to 12 takes about 2 hours of actively playing a game.
One item of note is that it tracks your progress in games by monitoring the activity on your phone. This may be a big negative for some more security conscious-gamers. The company site does have a list of terms and information about how they use information here.
Other than that, the application is well designed. The interface is professionally put together and simple to use. It also further makes using the app somewhat of a game-like experience, by having your account level up as you accumulate levels on various games. There is no sound to speak of that I noticed while using the app, though the sound is often turned off on my phone.
Overall, if you want to get paid to play games, I feel that Mistplay is a good option. It tracks your time spent in games well, the amount of points to earn a reward is reasonable (at least for services like this one), and it doesn’t have any annoying advertisements. Granted, the app itself is an advertisement for games. I give it a solid “B” grade, or 8.5/10 stars.
